Yay! July 1st! Michelle's first day as a faculty member!
I worked on paperwork for a little while in the morning, then Mom and I went to the zoo. We went just after opening, so we got into the children's zoo for free. A lot of the animals in the nursery area were active. We saw the fennec fox, and a baby leopard, and an echidna running around, and meerkats. We had fun watching people-watching at the goat petting zoo. After that, I took Mom to the penguin exhibit. She too was impressed at how close we got to be to the penguins. We wandered through the Missouri Cypress Swamp exhibit, and then headed out of the zoo. We walked up to Art Hill and enjoyed the view, then went in to the art museum for a little while. Mom enjoyed seeing real Picasso and Monet paintings.
We came home and walked to Einstein's for lunch. Then we downloaded the pictures off Mom's camera and played with them, making panoramas and experimenting with HDR. I think it worked, but I still didn't really pick a good subject where the HDR rendering really mattered. The HDR composite didn't look much different from the camera's automatic exposure.
Mom and I watched Persepolis. It is an autobiographical movie, with the theme being "life sucks, and . . . life still sucks." It was well done, but not my kind of movie.
When Michelle came home, we went to Cindy's to get our hair cut. Then we met up with Michelle's Mom at Sweet Tomatoes for dinner.
We went back to Michelle's Mom's house to tour the house and see the most recent changes. The wall in the family room below the kids' bathroom was almost finished, and about a third of the tile work in the kids' bathroom was done.
We picked up Michelle's bouquette that had been delivered to her Mom's house, and headed for home.
